09-27-2017

Organized by Osraty Association and Himma International Academy, the first scientific regional conference "Technological Infiltration of Families" kicked off today with Arab and local participation.
The conference aims to shed light on the dangers of the technological infiltration of the family and ways to protect families and societies from the negative, subversive and extremist values associated with such technologies by promoting positive values that strengthen family and social cohesion. It also attempts to spread knowledge on the use of new means of communication with a view to come up with scientific preventive and remedial solutions for electronic infiltration, develop a values system that establishes guidelines for of handling technology and social networks and introduce ways of utilizing technology to the best interests of the individual and family.
NCFA's Secretary General Fadel Al-Hmoud said that NCFA's main concern since its establishment in 2001 has been the family and its protection against new developments and any cultural and social phenomenon that might threaten it. Al-Hmoud indicated that the Council has prepared in the year 2015 the first periodic report for the status of the Jordanian family which showed that 67% of the families have emphasized the effect of the internet and social networks on the family's time together and that 60% have stressed their impact on upbringing. NCFA also prepared a series of awareness packages in 2014 directed towards the family and child on the safe use of the internet including a range of practical steps that can be followed to guide the family so as to ensure a safer use of the internet, added Al-Hmoud.
Chairman of the conference's steering committee Dr. Mohammad Al-Halaiqah underscored the issue of electronic infiltration into the society as a whole and the family in particular, noting that technology has had significant effects on the structure of the family and the children themselves as the social media has taken the place of social visits instead of being a means of exchanging ideas and useful information.
Al-Haliqah warned against the dangers of social media as well as negative uses of new technologies as they can be inciters of intellectual and behavioral terrorism, stressing the role of the civil society organizations and the family in raising awareness and fortifying it against the risks and downfalls of technology.
Dr. Ahmad Abu Rumman Head of the Conference pointed out that technology has caused a change in the life style of many people from all aspects and has posed new challenges to the family which need to be addressed thoughtfully. Abu Rumman went on saying that the family used to be the main source of information for the children, but nowadays roles have changed and as a result of the interference of technology and modern means of communication technology seems to have taken prominence at the expense of the role of the family.
Abu Rumman stressed the significance of this two-day conference which hosts specialists and academics who will discuss the dangers and negative aspects of the technological infiltration and come out with a set of recommendations to curb the negative effects of this issue and be able to control it so that the family can restore its role and hence safeguard the children against such possible dangers.
The conference will discuss several working papers including electronic divorce under the Personal Status Law and the point of view of the General Iftaa Department; the extent of parental control on teenagers' exposure to technological contents in light of their effects on others; the dangers and negative effects of technology on children; the effects of technology on family cohesion; the role of the family in effecting family dialogue; the internet generation: permission or prohibition; and how to raise your child in the time of information boom.
