Conclusion of a Training Workshop for Sharia Courts in the Southern Region

 Aqaba, March 5th, (Petra)- Ameen Maaita- A specialized training workshop on instruction manual on the protection of family from violence for the sharia courts at the Supreme Judge Department in the southern region has been concluded today in Aqaba Governorate.

Organized by the NCFA, in cooperation with UNICEF, the 3-day-workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of employees of religion institutions with respect to addressing family and child protection issues.

Mohammad Zubi, the Assistant Secretary-General for Technical Affairs of NCFA said that this workshop supports efforts of the religious institutions in combating domestic violence by paying attention to family affairs, noting the importance of this manual, which seeks to improve the work of NCFA and institutionalize the family protection system and its members through the guidelines contained therein.

Zubi added that the manual focuses on developing a national action mechanism based on a participatory approach that includes all public and private institutions concerned with family protection in light of the national framework for the protection of the family from violence, and unified national work procedures for the prevention of and response to cases of violence in Jordan.

He noted that the training program deals with the concept and types of violence and its types, the position on violence from the sharia perspective, how to deal with alleged violence in a number of cases, and the role of the Public Prosecution and Family Reconciliation  Office in protecting against violence.

Furthermore, Zubi noted that the family protection national framework document was reviewed. The said document defines the basis for providing prevention and protection services and clarifies roles and responsibilities and how the relevant governmental and non-governmental institutions deal with domestic violence cases.

It should be mentioned that the Council and UNICEF will continue during this year to complete a series of training workshops for religious institutions, including the General Iftaa Department, the Supreme Judge Department and the Ministry of Awqaf in the central and northern regions, to familiarize the largest possible number of employees of such institutions with the instruction manual and its content.
