Jordan Joins World in Celebrating International Family Day Tomorrow
05-15-2023
Jordan participated in the global celebration of the International Day of Families on May 15th each year, under the theme "Families and Demographic Trends" this year.
Dr. Mohammad Miqdadi, the Secretary-General of the National Council for Family Affairs, said today, Sunday, that dedicating a global day to celebrate the family comes from a deep belief in its role. The growth and development of societies are fundamentally based on the growth and development of families, he added.
Miqdadi pointed out that the achievements of the Council throughout its journey reworded its mission to create an enabling environment for Jordanian families to reach stability and prosperity. He underscored that an individual's stability within their family environment is positively reflected in their interactions with others.
He also noted that the Council, in its early stages, initiated qualitative research aiming to identify priority family issues. This research formed the basis for all its studies, plans, strategies, and programs, reflecting positively on the family.
Within the scope of its work, the mission of NCFA focused on the national strategy for the Jordanian family under the theme "Family Growth... Community Growth". The mission emphasized that the family is not only a social unit but a unit composed of members of different ages, genders, needs, and roles.
As part of the Council's commitment to family affairs, the idea came to prepare regular reports on the conditions of Jordanian families. The first report was prepared in 2014, and the second in 2018. The initial study was conducted on a sample of Jordanian families, including 1,900 families and 819 individuals. While the second report, expanded to include 2,300 families and 9,537 individuals aged 18 and above within the family.
The objective of issuing the two reports was to achieve a comprehensive study of the priorities of Jordanian family issues and to monitor their conditions, providing comprehensive information about them from all hubs. The reports focused on monitoring demographic, economic, health, educational, cultural, marital status, cohesion, and disintegration characteristics. Additionally, they aimed to identify the challenges facing Jordanian families and how they affect their roles. The reports also reviewed national policies and strategies and their alignment with the requirements of the Jordanian family, according to Miqdadi.
NCFA has issued various reports and studies and implemented initiatives that align with its scope of work. Recently, the council launched an automated system for responding to cases of violence.
Through its family counseling centers, the Council held awareness sessions on many social issues related to the family, with full attention to senior persons. An inclusive national strategy for this group was prepared, focusing on providing healthcare for them and creating a supportive physical and social environment. The Council also played a role in formulating policies that align with the nature of the family.
