05-15-2016

During the launch ceremony of a new manual for workers with families at risk, Public Security Director, Major General Atef Al-Saudi pointed out that family is the society's first line of defense against threats to security and stability and that it should be safeguarded and protected against all forms of violence and threats to make sure that it remains an effective development factor in society.
Inaugurating the ceremony which coincides with the celebrations of the International Day for Families, Al-Saudi added that the Public Security Directorate (PSD) has adopted the concept of family security as part of its security strategies through a specialized department for family protection staffed with the finest qualified cadres and equipped with cutting edge technologies to enable the department to assume its responsibilities effectively in accordance with international standards, thus seeking to disseminate the concepts of family security and family protection against violence by coordinating and cooperating with all relevant entities.
Al-Saudi commended the cooperation between the Directorate and NCFA in this area as it embodies the good partnership between both sides which has been clearly demonstrated in the launch of the Manual as one of the fruits of this cooperation, hoping that it will be applied and made use of by all workers in institutions working in the area of family protection to the best interests of all members of our society.
On his part, NCFA Secretary-General Fadel Al-Hmoud pointed out that the NCFA has worked to implement the families at risk prevention project in cooperation with Questscope for Social Development in the Middle East. One of the outcomes of this project was the development of a manual for workers who deal with families at risk to help them identify ways of handling such families and report risk factors when they prevail to guarantee the safety of the children and their families.
"Risk factors are found in every society and their negative impacts may present themselves repeatedly affecting the families and their unity and endangering children; hence, we have to work together and join our efforts before it is too late," added Al-Hmoud, noting that in spite of the achievements made in the area of family protection, the Jordanian society still confronts a lot of challenges that might threaten its social structure, a matter that demands our full cooperation to improve the level of the services presented to families across the governorates of Jordan.
In his speech, Dr. Curt Rhodes, Director of Questscope, emphasized the value of these programs and projects in serving disadvantaged groups which stems from Questscope's vision and its mission statement of "Putting the last, first", making the best use of all their programs and projects to make this motto a reality.
The manual prepared by Dr. Jalal Kayed Damra deals with several concepts including the concepts of the functional and non-functional families, marginalized and at risk families and children at risk.
The manual also concentrates on the personal characteristics and skills that should be found in social and psychological specialists working with families at risk as well as the educational and psychological training programs for families at risk.
